Sporting Venues

If your Mexico feature film production, tv commercial, television series  or music video requires the use of traditional sports  venues, our Jalisco based Mexico location scouts can help.

Soccer

Jalisco state is the home of two professional soccer teams both of which play at the Estadio Jalisco in the Colonia neighborhood of the state capital Guadalajara. There are two Liga MX seasons, the Apertura runs from July – December and the Clausura from January – May.

Charrería

Another sport famous in Jalisco but largely unknown outside the country is the Charrería. The sport of Charrería is considered a “living history” of Mexico and is officially the national sport. You may be planning to include scenes depicting enjoyment of traditional Mexican pastimes in your Jalisco based film or television production. Also known as Mexican rodeo, it embodies the image of the Mexican cowboy, a national and cultural iconic figure of the greatest importance. Mexican ranchers from the late 19th century developed livestock handing techniques that would later become the sport, displaying the equestrian and cowboy skills typical of the Charro.”

Women as well as men participate in modern events of the charrería, which are hugely popular, and take place in arenas called canvases charros. In Guadalaraja events are held on Sundays, with a national competition taking place somewhere in the country, typically in November. There are Guadalajara families famous for maintaining this tradition, and it is possible to stage Mexican rodeo events for the purpose of film production at any time during the year.

Bullfighting

Animal rights activists and general opinion worldwide has caused the number of countries in which bullfighting remains legal to dwindle to just eight. Although Mexico is one of them, the sport is now illegal in five states. Bullfighting still takes place however in Jalisco, where events are attended at Guadalajara’s Plaza de Toros. International and Mexican matadors are on display on Sundays. The stadium seats some 20,000 and is also used for horse shows, wrestling exhibitions, and concerts. Our Mexico camera crew can meet the technical and artistic requirements needed to film events taking place at the Plaza de Toros.

Baseball

The Panamerican Athletics Stadium in Guadalajara’s Zapopan district is home to the state capital’s  baseball team, Charros de Jalisco. This world class stadium was built in 2011 for the Pan American games and has approximately 11,000 seats overlooking its synthetic grass field. The Guadalajara baseball season runs from October to December.

Lucha Libre

At the Guadalajara Coliseum Arena both men and women take part in Lucha Libre, a form of professional wrestling unique to Mexico and a part of its popular culture. Much like the professional wrestling in the USA, this raucously celebrated sport features larger than life characters – both men and women. Wearing vibrant costumes and distinctive colorful masks, team of up to three compete. Lucha libre performances are held at the Arena Coliseo de Guadalajara in Guadalajara’s downtown district on Tuesday and Sunday nights. Add an element of popular Mexican culture to your Mexico film or television production by hiring our Mexico camera crew to shoot some scenes for you depicting a Lucha Libre fight.

Boxing

Mexican boxers have distinguished themselves internationally and the sport is as popular in Jalisco as it is elsewhere in the country. Matches can be seen at the Arena Coliseo de Guadalajara and other venues in the capital. Gyms where boxers train are commonplace throughout the state. Let our Mexico location scouts find the right one for music video or television or film production. Our Mexico camera crew will see you get the shots you need.
