Forests & Groves

Documentary and fictional film makers in need of tropical forest shooting locations should consider those in Jalisco. Some things to consider: Most of the rain falls from June through October in occasional showers. The principal vegetation in the ecoregion is tropical dry forest and many trees lose their leaves during the winter dry season. The area’s forests and groves are among the most diverse in Mexico and on the Central and South American continents, as they are home to about 1200 species of plants and endemic species of fauna that include the Mexican shrew, the trumpet nosed bat, the deer mouse, and various rats. The region is also home to 300 bird species, about half of which remain year-round. Many reptiles and amphibians too, are endemic to the area. Film crews arriving at one of the state’s two international airports are less than a day’s drive to all of Jalisco’s outdoor filming locations.
